Burma Credentials Challenge at the United Nations

Action Announcement – 1 August 2008

Beginning August 4th at 9 AM and continuing everyday through September, Burmese and non-Burmese activists will rally at the United Nations Headquarters in New York to call for the international community to recognize that the military junta in Burma is illegitimate and not the representative government of the people of Burma.

The legitimate government of the people of Burma was elected in 1990 during a free and fair General Election. The military junta in Burma, the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC), illegally and ruthlessly disregarded the will of the people and the results of this 1990 General Election. The SPDC maintains its power through a reign of terror and brute force; the SPDC is not and has never been the legal or legitimate state government of Burma.

As a result, many leading organizations of Burma's peaceful democracy movement have united to launch a challenge of the SPDC's credentials at the United Nations. Together, these leading non-violent democracy organizations call for international support of their "Credentials Challenge at the United Nations" campaign.

The world witnessed many recent atrocities in Burma associated with the "Saffron Revolution" in September 2007, when the junta killed monks peacefully protesting in the streets, and with Cyclone Nargis in May 2008, when the junta refused to provide immediate humanitarian assistance dying and suffering victims. The SPDC's crimes against humanity and brutality against the people in Burma must not be tolerated.

Today, on behalf of the people in Burma who are tortured and murdered for freedom, we ask every one of you to support this critical action against one of the world's most oppressive juntas.

Success of this campaign depends on your participation. Come to these vital rallies and show your support for a peaceful democratic transition in Burma. Please join us and help us challenge the SPDC's credentials at the United Nations.

As Daw Aung San Suu Kyi requested, it is time for us to stand together and use our liberty to promote liberty for the people in Burma.

လက္ရွိျမန္မာႏုိင္ငံတြင္ အုပ္ခ်ဳပ္ေနေသာ နအဖသည္ တရား၀င္ အစိုးရမဟုတ္ေၾကာင္းႏွင့္ ျပည္သူလူထု၏ ကိုယ္စားလွယ္လည္း မဟုတ္ေၾကာင္း ႏုိင္ငံတကာကသတ္မွတ္လာေစရန္ လႈံ ့ေဆာ္မည့္ လႈပ္ရွားမႈ တရပ္ကို လာမည့္ ၾသဂုတ္ ၄ ရက္ေန ့ နံနက္ ၉ နာရီမွ စတင္၍ စက္တင္ဘာလထိတိုင္ ျမန္မာႏုိင္ငံသားမ်ားႏွင့္ ျမန္မာ့အေရး ေထာက္ခံသူ အေမရိကန္ ႏုိင္ငံသားတို ့ ပူးေပါင္း၍ နယူးေယာက္ ၿမိဳ ့ရွိ ကုလသမဂၢရုံးခ်ဳပ္ေရွ ့တြင္ ဆႏၵျပၾကမည္ ျဖစ္သည္။

ျမန္မာႏုိင္ငံ၏ တရား၀င္အစိုးရကို ၄င္းျပည္သူမ်ားက ၁၉၉၀ ေရြးေကာက္ပြဲတြင္ ေရြးေကာက္တင္ေျမာက္ခဲ့သည္။ ျပည္သူလူထု၏ ဆႏၵႏွင့္ ၄င္းတို ့ဆံုးျဖတ္ေပးလိုက္သည့္ ၁၉၉၀ ေရြးေကာက္ပြဲရလာဒ္ကို ယေန ့ထိတိုင္ န၀တ (၀ါ) နအဖက တရားမ၀င္ ရက္စက္စြာ လစ္လ်ဴရႈထားၿပီး အာဏာကို အဓမၼသိမ္းပိုက္ထားသည္။ နအဖသည္ အသည္းနာ ကမာၻမေၾကျဖစ္ရထိတိုင္ ျပည္သူမ်ားအား နည္းေပါင္းစံုျဖင့္ ေၾကာက္လန္ ့ေအာင္ ၿငိမ္းေျခာက္အုပ္ခ်ဳပ္ေနျခင္းသာျဖစ္ၿပီး တရား၀င္ ျပည္သူ ့အစိုရ လုံး၀မဟုတ္ေခ်။

ထို ့ေၾကာင့္ မိမိတို ့ဒီမိုကေရစီလိုလားသူ အဖြဲ ့အစည္းမ်ား ညီညြတ္စြာ ပူးေပါင္း၍ နအဖ၏ တရားမ၀င္မႈႏွင့္ ျပည္သူကိုယ္စားမျပဳမႈကို ကုလသမဂၢတြင္ စိန္ေခၚမည္ျဖစ္သည္။ ျမန္မာႏုိင္ငံ ဒီမိုကေရစီလိုလားသူအဖြဲ ့အစည္းမ်ား လူပုဂၢိဳလ္မ်ား ပူးေပါင္း၍ လုပ္ေဆာင္မည့္ ထိုလႈပ္ရွားမႈအေပၚ ႏုိင္ငံတကာရွိ ျပည္သူျပည္သားအားလံုး ၀ိုင္း၀န္း ပါ၀င္ ေထာက္ခံၾကရန္ ေဆာ္ၾသသည္။

နအဖ၏ တို္င္းသူျပည္သားမ်ားအေပၚ ရက္စက္မႈေၾကာင့္ မိမိတို ့ျမန္မာႏုိင္ငံသားမ်ားတင္မကဘဲ ကမာၻ ့ျပည္သူမ်ားကလဲ နအဖကို စက္ဆုပ္ရြံရွာေနၿပီျဖစ္သည္။ ၂၀၀၇ စက္တင္ဘာ သံဃာ့လႈပ္ရွားမႈတြင္ နအဖ၏ ရက္စက္စြာၿဖိဳခြင္းခဲ့ျခင္းႏွင့္ မၾကာေသးမီက ျဖစ္ပြားေသာ နာဂစ္ မုန္တိုင္းဒဏ္သင့္ ျပည္သူမ်ားအတြက္ အေရးေပၚ ကယ္ဆယ္ေရး လုပ္ငန္းမ်ား ခ်က္ခ်င္း လုပ္ကိုင္ျခင္းမရွိဘဲ လစ္လ်ဴရႈထားျခင္း တို ့ကို ကမာၻ ့ ျပည္သူမ်ားက မ်က္၀ါးထင္ထင္ျမင္ေတြ ့ထားၿပီးျဖစ္သည္။ ကိုယ့္တို္င္းသူျပည္သား အခ်င္းခ်င္း ရက္ရက္စက္စက္ သတ္ျဖတ္ေနျခင္းအေပၚ သည္းခံျခင္းျဖင့္ ခြင့္လႊတ္၍မရပါ။
ယေန ့ လြတ္ေျမာက္ေရးအတြက္ႏွင့္ အသက္မ်ား ဘ၀မ်ား စေတးခံေနရေသာ ျမန္မာျပည္သူမ်ား အားလံုးကိုယ္စား ယခုအေရးတႀကီး လုပ္ေဆာင္မည့္ လႈပ္ရွားမႈတြင္ တဦးမက်န္ အားလံုးပါ၀င္ ၾကပါရန္ ကြ်ႏု္ပ္တို ့က ေလးနက္စြာ ေတာင္းဆိုလိုက္သည္။

ကမာၻ ့အဆံုးရြားဆံုးေသာ စစ္အုပ္စုအား စိန္ေခၚဆန္ ့က်င္မည့္ ကြ်ႏု္ပ္တို ့၏ ရွင္းလင္းၿပီး ျပတ္သားေသာ ထိုလႈပ္ရွားမႈတြင္ ရဟန္းရွင္လူ မိဘျပည္သူအားလံုး ပါ၀င္ပူးေပါင္းမႈျဖင့္သာ နအဖကို ကုလသမဂၢမွ တရား၀င္ ဖယ္ရွားႏုိင္မည္ျဖစ္သည္။ တစ္လေက်ာ္ၾကာ ျပဳလုပ္မည့္ ၄င္းလႈပ္ရွားမႈတြင္ အားလံုးပူးေပါင္းမႈျဖင့္ နအဖကို ကုလသမဂၢမွ ဖယ္ရွားႏုိင္ၿပီး ျမန္မာျပည္သူမ်ားအတြက္ ေအာင္ပြဲခံမည္။

ေဒၚေအာင္ဆန္းစုၾကည္၏ ေတာင္းဆိုခ်က္အတိုင္း မိမိတို ့၏ လြတ္လပ္မႈကို အသံုးခ်၍ ျမန္မာျပည္တြင္း ဒုကၡခံေနရသူမ်ား လြတ္ေျမာက္ေရးအတြက္ လုပ္ေဆာင္ေပးပါရန္ ရဟန္းရွင္လူမိဘျပည္သူအေပါင္းတို ့အား အထူးေမတၱာရပ္ခံအပ္ပါသည္။
